Police said Tuesday the homeowner is 72-year-old Richard Pruden, and that his daughter and her family were visiting from Arkansas at the time of the blast. Northfield Township police say six people were in the house at the time of the explosion. For the investigators, every piece of evidence matters, and right now, that crucial evidence is scattered around 2 acres of the property due to the explosion that the community heard and felt miles away. Police responded to a report of an explosion at a single-family home in a rural area of the Whitmore Lake neighborhood at around 4 p.m.

Richard Bragg, the owner of the house, remained in a hospital Tuesday in critical condition, Powell said. Don and Hope Bragg's youngest child, 16-year-old Steven Bragg, was also hospitalized with critical injuries, Powell said. "We want to advise the public that this is an active investigation and Winters Lane is a private road, only open to the residents and their guests," the news release said. As police and fire personnel arrived they learned there had been six people inside the home and they began a search of the area while fire personnel worked on extinguishing the remaining fire. A wide swath of ground surrounding the home's hollowed-out basement was covered with splintered wood debris Saturday, aerial footage shows. The charred husk of a car could also be seen near where the outside walls of the home once stood in Whitmore Lake, a rural community about 12 miles north of Ann Arbor. Since it’s a private road, police say they will issue citations for unauthorized access. Only investigators, people who live in the area, and their guests are allowed now.
Lyman says a crucial part of the investigation will be insight from the explosion survivors. Former Waterford Fire Chief Joe Lyman says it could be months before investigators get to the bottom of what happened. As neighbors continue to grapple with this tragedy, they are wondering what caused the explosion.
Of the three others who were hospitalized, one died and two were in critical condition at a hospital, according to an update Sunday from Northfield Township police. Saturday when the sounds of the explosion were heard nine miles away, police said. Debris from the blast spread to a nearby highway, leading a resident to report the blast to authorities. Police said they found three deceased individuals as well as three critically injured individuals, who were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
"Even in war, I have never heard of anything of this level at this distance." Those killed were identified as 51-year-old Hope Bragg, her husband, Don Bragg, 53, and two of their children, 22-year-old Kenneth Bragg and 19-year-old Elizabeth Bragg, according to Powell. An arson team is expected to be at the explosion site on Tuesday.
